World’s Oldest Living Woman Says She’s Single Because She Didn’t Want to Be Dominated
The world’s oldest living woman is a 116-year-old Italian woman by the name of Emma Morano. As the world celebrates her longevity she shares her life story including the fact that she believes she has lived a long and healthy life due to the fact that she has remained single.
According to the New York Times Emma told reporters that she left her abusive husband in 1938 during a time when separation was rare, divorce was illegal and women were expected to be submissive to their husbands. Emma easily summed up her reason for going against the social norms of the time and refusing to tie herself to another man for nearly 8 decades. ” didn’t want to be dominated by anyone,” she said.
Thankfully we live in an era where social norms are shifting. Women now have more say in their relationships and are taking authority over their own lives. Women are no longer expected to fulfill a predetermined role just because society says so. Women are standing up and becoming leaders in society and in their homes, carefully crafting out the lifestyles they want versus playing along with standards set by men.
Too bad Emma wasn’t born in this generation, but even still she seems happy with the way her life turned out. At 116 years old she does not have a single complaint and is still the perfect example for women everywhere who need to understand that marriage is an option and not a requirement. When you are a Powerful and awesome woman, you can have a wonderful life no matter what.
